Scholastic Book Fair

posted Jan 31, 2017, 12:45 PM by Unknown user

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps kids discover who they are. Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books that kids want to read right to them and our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.

Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits during one of the following days:

Monday, February 6th - 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Tuesday, February 7th - 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM (during conferences)

Wednesday, February 8th – 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Thursday, February 9th - 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM (during conferences)

Friday, February 10th - 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM

Before you visit the Book Fair, download the Book Fairs app to help you find the right books for your child.  Visit our own Portage Central Middle School Book Fair website at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/portagecentralmiddleschool for more information. There, you will find download links, tutorials of how to use the app, information on how your child can make a wish list that can be sent to you via email, and more!

If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair. Our online Fair is available from January 30th to February 14th. Books bought online can be shipped and delivered to CMS for free! Visit our CMS Book Fair website for a direct link to our online fair at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/portagecentralmiddleschool.

Lastly, the WEB leaders and I are running a candygram fundraiser from January 30th through February 8th. Students are helping to sell, make, and deliver all candygrams. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards Scholastic’s “All for Books” campaign, which provides books to kids in need to help promote literacy and a love of reading. The students have set a goal of $250 to benefit kids who need books! Donation boxes will be available during conferences if you'd like to give to the fundraiser.

We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Sincerely,

Lexie Frank
CMS Media Secretary

Please note that we have acquired some new databases for your research and reference needs.   Britannica School and Britannica Image Quest are both now available on our Reference Tools tab above.   Britannica School is part of a new lineup of databases made available from the State of Michigan on Mel.org also easily linked on the same tab.  CultureGrams, Sirs Researcher,  Fact Cite, Britannica Image Quest  and Grolier will need passwords available on your Home Reference Sheet (extra copies in the library).

We Can Help

Welcome to the Media Center's Google site for one -stop shopping for all your reading and research needs.  Watch this space and the space below for library related events and news.  Some featured new books will soon be listed in the very near future and student reviews will soon appear in the tabs above.  We will welcome your reviews and suggestions as soon as that is in place.

Home Reference Guides with passwords for the subscription databases like Grolier were distributed by your ELA teachers sometime in October.   Extra copies are always in the library.  Please report any non-working links to library staff.

Destiny is now linked directly to this page and you can check your account from home or in the building.
